Column: Firearms bill corrects flaws in state law

I want to set the record straight regarding a major misperception about a bill I recently introduced, House Bill 1048.

House Bill 1048 is not about arming teachers or students carrying guns in schools.

HB1048 simply does three things:

It allows a person who is legally carrying a firearm to lock their firearm in a vehicle out of sight on school property without being subjected to a life-ruining felony charge. People who conduct business at school, attend sporting events after work or teachers and staff who travel to and from school would have a legal remedy to store their firearms in their vehicle without committing a felony if House Bill 1048 passes.
