Column: Kids deserve opportunity to make up lost school days

A lunch with our younger daughter on missed school day No. 13 illustrates what’s wrong with the state announcing it would consider waiving two missed days because of the extreme polar punch delivered to the nation’s midsection in January.

“I think they should waive more school days,” she said while waiting for her chicken strips, fries and chocolate shake to arrive.

“Why?” I asked, trying to act incredulous while not surprised at all.
