Company purchases Cereplast assets

An Oregon company plans to begin producing bio-based, disposable eating utensils, food containers and plastic bags from a now-shuttered Cereplast plant on Seymour’s east side.

Trellis Earth Products Inc. purchased the assets of Cereplast on Friday for $2.6 million as part of Chapter 7 liquidation proceedings. The purchase does not include the building at 2213 N. Killion Ave. That building is owned by Jackson County resident Dill Whittymore.

Judge Basil H. Lorch with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court Southern District of Indiana approved the sale Friday.
