Cougars beat Bulldogs to advance to championship



Brianna Sons hit a two-run home run in the top of the third inning to spark Trinity Lutheran’s softball team to an 8-2 win against Orleans in Tuesday’s semifinal game of the Class A Sectional 61 at Springs Valley High School.

The game was tied at 1 entering the top of the third when the Cougars scored five runs. Trinity added two runs in the top of the fourth in raising its record to 15-5.

The Cougars pounded out 13 hits. Sons had a home run, a single and three RBIs, while Taylor Reynolds, Natalie Plofkin and Liz Hill each had a single, a double and an RBI, and Haylee Barker had two singles and an RBI.
