Battling hard in a basketball game only to lose on a buzzer-beater one night, and then having to play again the next night could be difficult.

But the Trinity Lutheran boys proved they could handle it — quite nicely.

The Cougars lost to rival Indianapolis Lutheran 63-60 Friday night, but coach Aaron Rudzinski said it was his team’s best 32 minutes of basketball all season.

Fortunately, he saw his team put together another strong showing Saturday night at home against Henryville. The Cougars scored the first 16 points of the game and cruised to a 72-38 win.

“We’ve done that before,” Rudzinski said of getting off to a fast start, “and we’ve also had a team come back, where we think we have an easy win. ... Today, our focus was, ‘Let’s keep the foot on the gas throughout the second half and keep extending the lead so we don’t have to worry about them coming back.’”
