Trinity Lutheran junior Toby VanLiew hit a buzzer-beater from half-court at the end of the first half of Saturday’s Class A Sectional 61 championship game at Springs Valley High School.
That basket brought a huge roar from the Trinity fans, and the Cougars carried that momentum into the second half and defeated No. 8 Orleans 55-34.
It was Trinity’s second boys basketball sectional title. Its first was in the 2010-11 season, also a win in the championship against Orleans. The Bulldogs had won the previous two titles.
