Trinity Lutheran’s softball team built a 6-0 lead through two and a half innings of Monday’s season-opener before host Orleans cut its deficit in half. Trinity then responded with three runs in the top of the fourth on its way to a 10-4 win.

In the second inning, Cougars freshman Taylor Reynolds hit a two-run home run on the first at-bat of her high school career. She was one of five girls with two hits as Trinity outhit Orleans 12-3, and the Cougars only had one error to the Bulldogs’ six.

“(Reynolds) hit the ball really hard,” Cougars coach Tom Barker said. “We had seven girls hitting the ball tonight. That was huge. To play as well as we did, their confidence level was huge tonight. They never gave up. When we were up 6-0 and they came back with three, we came right back and scored three runs.”
