Dillon DeVore said the soccer ball was taking some strange bounces when it popped up in front of him during the second half of Thursday’s Class A
Switzerland County Regional match.
He promptly put it in the net with 10:40 remaining, giving Trinity Lutheran a 2-1 lead against Southwestern (Hanover), and the Cougars held on for the one-goal victory.
“I was just looking to get a foot on it and hit it in,” the Cougars senior said. “I was inside the six. I was pretty close. The ball deflected off (Bobby Tabeling’s) foot, and it spun really weird, and on the back spin, it came right to me. I was in the center and the goalie was to the left, and I kicked it and he dove to his left, and it went in.
