Council prepares to trim budget

Jackson County Council members recently received their first look at a proposed general fund budget for 2015 that’s $1.3 million higher than the state will likely approve.

That means the seven-member council will have to get the pencils and erasers out and go to work during the second round of budget hearings at 9 a.m. Sept. 1.

The proposed budget of $10,148,394 will be advertised, but the state has said the county will receive $8,875,590 in property and income tax and miscellaneous revenues in 2015, county Auditor Kathy Hohenstreiter said.
