2 companies seek abatements; animal ordinance up for first reading



More industrial development in Seymour and a ban on chickens and other animals in city limits will be the main topics of discussion at the city council meeting tonight.

Two local companies — Excel Manufacturing and Cummins Inc. — are requesting 10-year tax abatements on investments totaling nearly $70 million.

Excel plans to spend $1.5 million on manufacturing equipment to support a new business opportunity, said company vice president and owner Brent Kilgas.
