County jobless rate rises in January

Despite experiencing a 0.3 percent rise in unemployment from December to January, Jackson County continues to have one of the lowest rates in the state.

Just five of the state’s 92 counties had lower rates than Jackson County’s preliminary 5.3 percent rate in January, according to a report released Monday by the Indiana Department of Workforce Development.

“Obviously we have to be pleased overall looking at that number,” said Jim Plump, executive director of Jackson County Industrial Development Corp.
