County residents test mettle in Ironman race

First, you swim 2.4 miles in the Ohio River.

Then, you ride your bike for 112 miles through Louisville, Ky., and Oldham County.

Finally, you top it off with a 26.2-mile run, passing Churchill Downs and the University of Louisville before finishing at Fourth Street Live.

That has been the Louisville Ironman experience since 2007, and Kansas City, Kan., native Travis Fittro, who now lives in Medora, has completed it every year. In all, he has done 15 Ironmans, including Coeur d’Alene, Idaho; Lake Placid, N.Y.; Lake of the Ozarks, Mo.; and Madison, Wis.
