County system gets lift from fee

A rarely tapped user fee will finance routine work in the county surveyor’s office this summer so employees can improve the county’s geographic information system.

County Surveyor Dan Blann and Building Commissioner Mike Weir received approval from the county council last week to use $6,000 from the county’s electronic data fund, financed with fees from selling access to the system.

The account has about $50,000, Weir said. According to the county ordinance that established the fund, the fees are aimed at providing updates and improvements such as what Blann wants to add.
