Jackson County is under a travel advisory, the lowest level of local travel conditions.
An advisory means that routine travel or activities may be restricted in some areas because of a hazardous situation, and individuals should use caution or avoid those areas.
"The restrictions can help workers clear roadways where there might be a problem with safe travel," Duane Davis of the county emergency management office said .
He added motorists should be cautious in their travels.
An estimated 4 inches of snow and sleet fell in the Brownstown area, Davis said. A similar amount and mix fell in Seymour.
"We got fortunate where the weather broke around 10 p.m.," Davis said. "It didn't get as bad as we might have."
Up to 6 inches of snow had been forecast.
Area schools are closed today.
