County unemployment rate drops below 5%

Jackson County’s labor force grew by 135 people from November to December.

The growth lowered the county’s unemployment rate below 5 percent for the first time since May 2008, when it stood at 4.7 percent.

The county’s 4.9 percent rate in December was the sixth-lowest among the state’s 92 counties.
