A police officer injured when his car crashed west of Seymour remained hospitalized Sunday.

Mark Holt, 46, of Seymour, was reported in fair condition, said a spokeswoman at University Hospital in Louisville, Ky.

Holt, a road patrol officer with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department for two years, was fortunate to have escaped without more serious injuries when his cruiser crashed on State Road 258 between Cortland and Acme as he responded to a report of a domestic disturbance in which gunshots were fired, police said.

"He's a very, very lucky man," Jackson County Detective Bob Lucas said.
