Crash on icy road causes injuries

A head-on collision in southeastern Bartholomew County that injured three members of a Seymour family was one of multiple accidents caused recently by icy roads, police said.

At 5:42 a.m. Monday, a 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche, driven by Jesus Garcia-Flores of Seymour, was northbound on U.S. 31, about a mile north of Azalia, traveling at 30 to 40 mph, said investigating Trooper Brent Lykins of the Indiana State Police.

Despite the driver’s cautious speed, Garcia-Flores’ vehicle began to go out of control on what Lykins called a patch of black ice and swerved into the left lane, Lykins said.
