Columbus-based Cummins Inc. said Monday that it will delay reporting its third-quarter earnings by one day until Wednesday morning because the U.S. Stock Exchange temporarily closed with Hurricane Sandy approaching the East Coast.

Earnings initially were scheduled to be reported today.

“We know that safety of people is paramount and we certainly understand the decision to temporarily close the U.S. stock exchanges. We will provide our results on Wednesday and our thoughts are with the communities that may be impacted (by the storm),” Cummins Chief Executive Tom Linebarger said in a news release.
