Cummins forges ahead with construction

Cummins Inc. will invest nearly $70 million this year and hire more than 40 new employees as part of the company's ongoing expansion of Seymour Engine Plant.

Part of the project includes construction of a new 150,000-square-foot office building on the plant's north side where the existing parking lot and main entrance is along East Fourth Street, said Jim Plump, executive director of Jackson County Industrial Development Corp.

The building could house up to 500 office workers when completed next year.
