Police: Intoxicated North Vernon man leaves bar in vehicle; 4 felony counts filed

A Jennings County man wound up in jail facing a dozen criminal charges early Friday after police were led on a chase from a North Vernon bar to a residential area northwest of the city.

The incident that led to the arrest of Brent K. Begley, 50, of North Vernon began at 12:40 a.m. Friday when police responded to a report of an intoxicated man attempting to start his car and leave Phat Guys Sports Bar & Grill, 312 Hoosier St.

Begley faces four Class D felony counts of intimidation and a Class D felony charge of resisting law enforcement. He also faces Class A misdemeanor charges of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated endangerment, resisting law enforcement and two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer. Other charges pending against Begley include operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated, a Class C felony; reckless driving, a Class B misdemeanor; and disorderly conduct, a Class B misdemeanor.
