Jackson Circuit Judge Richard W. Poynter delivered a poignant message to an 18-year-old Seymour woman Friday just minutes before he ordered her to spend six years in prison for the death of a woman in a wreck in June.
“I hope you can honor her memory by living your life and being as good a person as you can be,” Poynter told Brianne Elizabeth Maynard.
She pleaded guilty Sept. 5 to reckless homicide in connection with the death of 35-year-old Crystal Engelking on June 1. Engelking died at an Indianapolis hospital following a head-on collision with Maynard’s vehicle on State Road 258 west of Seymour.
