Trinity Lutheran’s volleyball team had a tall task in opening against ninth-ranked Hauser in Saturday’s Edinburgh Invitational.
The No. 5 Cougars managed to rally past the Jets in the first set and win 25-23, and they pulled away to a 25-14 win in the second set. They then easily handled Monrovia 25-10, 25-9, putting them in the championship match.
There, Trinity had a strong first set against Edinburgh, winning 25-18. But Lancers seniors Abbi Bryant and Jennifer Stinson came up big, leading Edinburgh to wins of 25-22 and 15-13 for the title.
“It was a tough match, and we knew we were going to have to come in here and play,” Cougars coach Chelsey Hackman said. “We did the first game, and then it was over. We just thought we had won at that point, and we quit doing the things we had to do to win.
