Editorial: City needs support for biking efforts

Some in our community want Seymour to become a place that welcomes those using bicycles for recreation and as an alternate means of transportation. In other words, let’s make the city a Bicycle Friendly Community under a state program meant to encourage such efforts.

The community should support those plans that could include providing bicycle lanes on area streets and creating bicycle trails that would blend with plans for more walking and running trails around town.

Sadly, Seymour Department of Parks and Recreation had to cancel a Bicycle Friendly Community seminar planned for last Thursday. Fewer than five people had signed up when parks director Jeff Vance decided to postpone the meeting in hopes of generating more interest and more participants.
