Jackson County is among 18 finalists in the running for the five-county pilot grant program for prekindergarten programming in the Hoosier state’s public and accredited private schools along with other approved providers.
The greater community must act soon and in concert to determine whether we are prepared to and able to implement the program, which will target low-income 4-year-olds with the possibility of expanding it to other youth. And let’s hope that the answer is a resounding “yes.”
The community must then convince state officials that Jackson County is so inclined and capable of being selected among the five counties to participate in the pilot program, which will cost the state $10 million.
