Yes, the flu is here in Jackson County and across the Hoosier state. We’re one of 23 states that the Centers for Disease and Prevention considered to be experiencing regional influenza activity.
Officials are also saying there’s still time to protect ourselves from the virus by getting a flu vaccination, which remains available in ready supply at the Jackson County Health Department, Schneck Medical Center, doctors’ offices and pharmacies.
The flu season officially starts in November and runs through May, with most cases occurring in January or February. Health care professionals started seeing an uptick in cases last month.
