Hoosier high school basketball lost two outstanding supporters, educators and role models in recent weeks with the deaths of Lloyd E. “Barney” Scott of Seymour and James R. “Jim” Stewart of Crothersville.

Scott, the former Owls basketball coach, athletic director, teacher and financial director, died March 13. He was 85. Stewart, the former Crothersville and Medora basketball coach, teacher and administrator, died Feb. 27. He was 73.

The men toiled in different arenas, Scott at the 8,100-seat gymnasium that eventually bore his name at Seymour High School, and Stewart in the much smaller confines of gyms at Crothersville, Medora and other schools including Hauser and Jimtown. Of course, the length of the courts and height of the baskets were the same in every gym.
