Editorial: Locals prosper as Cummins sees gains

When Cummins Inc. announced on April 8 a joint venture with Beiqi Foton Motor Co. for its new ISG engine model to be built in Beijing and power the Foton Aumon GTL trucks, it reinforced an important message.

That is: What is good for Columbus-based Cummins Inc. globally is good for Cummins locally, including here in Jackson County, where many of its Hedgehog engines that will find homes and uses around the world are built.

The fact that the engine will be built in Beijing should not be misunderstood as benefiting only China. Design and development of the engine has been led by a team in the United States, with support from global technical and marketing resources with knowledge of local market and customer needs.
