Editorial: Lugar praised for forest, land work

The Tribune

We applaud the Hoosier Environmental Council for bestowing its first Statesman Award upon U.S. Sen. Richard Lugar.

The Indianapolis Republican received the organization’s Statesman of the Year Award during a recent ceremony in his hometown. It was part of the Hoosier Environmental Council’s fifth annual Greening the Statehouse forum at the University of Indianapolis.

The award acknowledges Lugar’s longstanding commitment to environmental matters, including his consistent work as a champion of the Hoosier National Forest, which includes 23,280 acres that provide valuable outdoors opportunities and resources here in Jackson County.
