Editorial: Preschool needed for at-risk students

Parents of young children across Jackson County are eager to place them in preschool programs.

Recently, Seymour-Redding Elementary School Principal Dylan Purlee told reporter January Wetzel that he already has heard from six families who want to sign up their children for a new preschool program that Seymour Community School Corp. is exploring.

The creation of a public preschool this fall at Redding to serve up to 60 students who might not have access to early childhood education otherwise is being reviewed by the school board. We urge trustees to approve the proposal and see that the preschool program is implemented and later — as quickly as possible — expand it to other schools.
