Today is Thanksgiving Day, a time to eat turkey, stuffing and desserts amid loved ones and friends, while watching a little football and contemplating your holiday purchases (perhaps those you make today with the earlier opening of stores). A time to give thanks for our families, friends, health, jobs and other things for which we are grateful.
But the local unemployment rate remains at more than 6 percent, and many have taken pay cuts or seen wages stay flat during the past several years since the start of the economic downturn that started in 2008.
The downturn continues to linger for many of our families, friends and neighbors.
