Editorial: Schools look within for pre-K funding

For years, education leaders across the state pushed for funding for full-day kindergarten. For this academic year, the state is covering most of the cost of such programs.

Future funding, however, remains unsecured. Nevertheless, Seymour Community Schools trustees voted last week to continue the day-long kindergarten program for the 2013-14 school year. That’s a wise decision our community should support.

There is no way to immediately gauge the success of full-day programs such as what Seymour put into place this past fall.
