Finally. It appears plans to build a skate park at Seymour’s Shields Park might be put into place and acted upon. As in actual construction.
Yes, the park might now have to be built in several phases, but part of a skate park is better than the ethereal skate park that has been nothing more than pipe dreams (pardon the pun, please), promises and blueprints since the late 1990s.
We think Seymour Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Vance made a wise recommendation Dec. 13 to the Seymour Board of Works and Public Safety. With bids in hand that in some cases more than doubled the estimated $120,000 cost for building the park, Vance recommended that the city instead proceed with building the skate park in several phases.
