At the very least, state school officials need to put an asterisk alongside the results of the 2013 ISTEP+ test results. A number of students and schools can reasonably argue that the results should be ignored entirely.
The problems of glitch-caused interruptions for thousands of students taking the online tests last month are so enormous as to question whether the results have any validity at all.
Tens of thousands of Hoosier children, including many here in Jackson County, who took the tests incurred disruptions in the testing period. The vendor, CTB/McGraw-Hill, has taken a narrower view than most schools, counting as disrupted only those kicked offline.
