Thumbs-up to Southern Indiana Center for the Arts and its second annual Seymour CityJam concert series, which kicked off June 19. The series continues Thursday with The Halley DeVestern Band bringing its bluesy sounds to the streets of downtown Seymour.

Thumbs-up to Brownstown Central High School basketball coach Dave Benter. He coached the boys Indiana All-Stars to a sweep of their Kentucky counterparts in June. Benter will begin his 17th season with the Braves this autumn. He has a record there of 280-107, including two trips to the state final.

Thumbs-up to Seymour Oktoberfest Committee for reinvesting income from the annual festival back into the infrastructure that helps the festival continue to attract thousands of folks downtown each fall. The committee recently donated $20,000 for the city to compensate for extra work of city employees, such as police officers and public works employees. It also reported the festivals’ three stages are being repaired.
