Editorial: Weekly rewards 1/31/14

Thumbs-up to custodial staff, teachers, administrators and others who helped move furniture and other materials into the new classrooms at Emerson Elementary School. January Wetzel reported recently that students and teachers are enjoying their new space, part of a $1.5 million renovation and expansion project at the Seymour school.

Thumbs-up to area residents and family members who have stepped up and helped out parents with child care during the rash of school cancellations this winter because of the weather and road conditions. We also offer a repeated thumbs-up to those who have helped their neighbors dig out from recent snow and checked on them to ensure they are safely weathering the cold temperatures.

Thumbs-up to Seymour Middle School eighth-grade choir student Emily Rumph, who was selected to sing in this year’s Indiana All-State Middle School Honor Choir. Rumph, the daughter of Jason and Beverly Rumph, was selected from the 5,000 members of the Circle the State with Song Festival participants. To become a member, she had to submit a recorded audition led by her teacher, Keith Stam.
