Editorial: Weekly rewards 2/21/14

Thumbs up to local residents who answer our emergency calls for help. The men and women who serve Seymour Police Department and Jackson County Sheriff’s Department earn our appreciation with the smooth, unexcited way in which they take our calls and dispatch officers, firefighters and emergency medical folks.

Thumbs-up to Leadership Jackson County for postponing its annual ValenTimes 10-kilometer run and 5K walk and run because of the weather and road conditions. The event is an important fundraiser, especially for its youth program, YoJack, but the organization showed leadership in deciding to delay the race out of safety concerns for those planning to take part. A new date will be set.

Thumbs-up to American Legion Post 89 of Seymour. It is donating $25,000 toward upgrades and improvements at the Seymour High School baseball diamond. Public-private partnerships are a great way to help finance projects such as the one planned at Owls Field, which will be renamed American Legion Field.
