Editorial: Weekly rewards 4/18/14



Thumbs-up to area residents who have stopped smoking cigarettes and using other tobacco products. According to the 2013 health rankings through a Robert Wood Johnson Foundation report, 23 percent of Jackson County residents smoked, compared with 27 percent in 2009. We’ll also give a thumbs-up to Jackson County Health Department and Schneck Medical Center for their role in offering tobacco cessation classes.

Thumbs-up to Aisin U.S.A. Manufacturing in Seymour, recently named one of seven 2013 Corporate College Partner Award recipients by Ivy Tech Corporate College, a division of Ivy Tech Community College. Aisin will be recognized at a program scheduled for May 8.

Thumbs-up to First Financial Bank and its efforts to help mentally challenged residents in Jackson County become better informed and better able to handle their own finances. The bank recently awarded Jackson County Developmental Services Inc. a $10,000 grant to help the agency’s clients become better money managers.
