A focus on education in Gov. Mike Pence’s first State of the State address Tuesday night meshes well with new education initiatives under way in Jackson County.
Pence highlighted
education at all levels, from initiatives in pre-kindergarten to vocational education to college.
That’s good to hear, C.W. “Bud” Walther of Community Foundation of Jackson County said afterward. The foundation is a partner in the newly reorganized Jackson County Education Coalition.
It, too, focuses on pre-kindergarten and other education initiatives.
“It says to me that we’re on the right track, a validation of the work that the coalition is doing,” Walther said. “We welcome him on board.”
Freshman District 69 state Rep. Jim Lucas, R-Seymour, said early childhood initiatives such as pre-kindergarten and post-secondary opportunities and vocational programs are great as long as they are focused and provide results.
