They have the same first name and live in Seymour, but that’s where the similarities between District 69 state representative candidates Jim Lucas and Jim McCormick end.

Lucas, a Republican, and McCormick, a Democrat, faced off in a public forum attended by more than 100 people Tuesday night in the Seymour High School auditorium.

The event, organized by Dave Urbanski, a government and history teacher at the school, offered voters and students an opportunity to hear where the candidates stand on a variety of issues, such as how the state should allocate surplus funds, maintain infrastructure, improve public education, create jobs and foster economic development.

Although the candidates knew the topics ahead of time, they did not know the questions, which were

crafted by Urbanski and his students to help educate voters before they head to the polls Nov. 6.
