Jackson County Drug-Free Council will conduct a medication collection during National Night Out from 5 to 7 p.m. Aug. 5 at Jamestown Apartments, 754 Miller Lane, Seymour.
National Night Out is an event designed to raise awareness about crime prevention. Disposing of unused medicines diminishes the risk of theft, overdose or abuse, said Brenda Turner, who is coalition director for the council.
Seymour police officers will conduct the unused medication collection. The police department is a member of the drug-free council. Several other members including the Jackson County Health Department and Turning Point Domestic Violence Services will set up booths and offer educational materials about drug- and crime-related issues, Turner said.
