Family seeking help with premature birth costs

A Freetown family has begun a fundraising effort to help with expenses related to the premature birth of their son.

Jude Shifflett was born to Jennifer Shifflet — who was 28 weeks’ pregnant — at 3:25 a.m. March 7. Normal pregnancy is about 40 weeks.

Jude, who weighed just 2 pounds, 15 ounces and was approximately 16 inches long, was born as his father, Chris Shifflett, was driving his mother to Indianapolis. The baby is expected to remain in neonatal intensive care at St. Vincent’s Women Center in Indianapolis until at least his original due date of May 25.
