Fire department responds to downtown fire

Seymour Fire Department responded to a report around 11 a.m. of a fire at the John F. Rothring law office.

Heavy smoke was pouring from the building at 115 W. Tipton St.

Police blocked traffic on Tipton Street, or U.S. 50, between Chestnut and  Broadway streets.

Two people fled from Rothring's law office without injury, a worker said at the scene.

The building also houses Mark John CPA. Part of the building was being remodeled to serve as the new home of the Jackson County Community Corrections program. About seven people left the CPA office without injury.

John Rothring and Mark John own the property, according to the Jackson County assessor's office.
