A family-owned auto repair and towing shop burned to the ground early Saturday morning, killing the family dog and causing more than $400,000 in damages.

Greg Thorneycroft, owner of Cypress Service Auto Repair Shop and Towing, 7410 E. 975N, said he received a call around 2 a.m. from neighbors who live behind the building, saying flames were coming from the roof.

The fire engulfed the building, killing the Thorneycroft’s 9-year-old German shepherd, named O’Niell.
