CROTHERSVILLE — Firefighters are on the scene of a fire reported at Versatech in Crothersville.
Employees were evacuated from the plant on Howard Street.
No one was hurt, plant manager Craig Mull said from the scene.
"We were able to evacuate and everyone did what they were supposed to do," Mull said.
About 100 employees were inside when the fire was discovered.
Smoke was seen coming from the plant, located in the former U.S. Shoe Corp. factory in town.
It appears the roof is on fire, and smoke can be seen billowing from the roof line near some electrical boxes in an area that borders Kovener Street.
Mull said the fire appears to be in a storage area of the factory, which borders Kovener Street, and that "it appears to be of an electrical nature."
He said he hoped production could resume later today, depending upon whether firefighters give that approval.
According to Jackson County Industrial Corp.'s website, Versatech makes electronic connectors. As of January 2011, the factory employed 197 workers.
Mull said the plant employs about 100 workers on each of two shifts.
