Flood waters along the East Fork White River are receding.

That allowed Indiana Department of Transportation to clean debris from and reopen State Road 258 between Seymour and Cortland on Thursday morning.

The river's level was dropping from 15.4 feet at 9 a.m. The National Weather Service expects is to drop below the 12-foot flood stage at Seymour sometime Friday morning.

State Road 235 between Medora and Vallonia remained closed, however, as are a number of county roads in low areas along the river.

Police urge motorists to steer clear of flooded roads and not attempt to drive through flooded areas.
