Hoosier National Forest staff plans 10 prescribed burns this spring, including two in Jackson County.
The forest service will burn two grassland areas totaling 55 acres around the Scott and Maines ponds to help improve wildlife habitat. The areas are north of Houston and west of Spurgeon’s Corner in northwest Jackson County.
Another 40 acres of grassland is set to be burned in Stillion Tract in neighboring Lawrence County.
