Fair. Knowledgeable. Sharing. Competitive. Demanding.
Those were among the ways former players, coaches and other colleagues described Lloyd E. “Barney” Scott, longtime coach of the Seymour High School boys basketball team.
The former Owls coach and athletic director died Wednesday. He was 85.
Scott coached the Owls from 1961 through 1974, compiling a record of 233-91 and winning nine sectional and five regional titles. He came from Jasper, where he had coached a team to the semistate the season before moving to Seymour.
Before that, he coached at Hagerstown in east-central Indiana.
