Former players glad to see rivalry continue

From 1967 to 1969, Mike Hurley and Jay Hunsucker were teammates on the Brownstown Central High School football team.

Their senior year, though, Hunsucker transferred to Seymour. So when it came time for the matchup between the Jackson County rival schools, Hurley and Hunsucker were no longer teammates — they were playing against each other.

Hurley said Brownstown held an early lead in the 1970 game, but Seymour made a comeback and went on to win 28-14.

“At that time, Seymour certainly was the huge, 800-pound gorilla rival,” Hunsucker said.
