FREETOWN — Community members came together to celebrate the nation at the annual Freetown July Festival over the weekend.

The festival featured opening ceremonies and naming of the festival princess on Friday as well as a car show, live bands and a parade — despite the rain — on Saturday.

The parade was cited as a crowd favorite of the festival and drew a crowd through this small community in western Jackson County. Children scurried for candy thrown from floats along the parade route. For some area residents, the festival is a reminder of what once was.
