Fundraiser plants seeds for annual Watermelon Festival

The Jackson County Watermelon Festival committee is hosting a Valentine’s dinner, dance and auction next month to raise money for the annual homage to the county’s watermelon crop.

Proceeds from the formal event will be used to add carnival rides to the festival, which organizers say will help draw more families to the event.

Anyone looking for a sweetheart may want to attend the Feb. 7 fundraiser at Pewter Hall in Brownstown to bid for a date with an eligible Jackson County bachelor or bachelorette, said Esther Hall, vice president of the festival committee.
